It has been another long while since I last update the site… And even longer since my last review. One day, I hope to start a post without the obligated apology for the lack of continuity.
Recently, I had a week away from work, in which I hoped to unwind from the stresses of the 9-5, and get some real work done on the project I am currently calling Scrap Metal. What was it they say about the best laid plans? Either way, it went badly. I have done very little, and will now be trying to work hard to make up for time.
Originally, I planned on just releasing this on Kickstarter, having a 60 day limit, and just finishing the project in 60 days. With the amount of extras I am having to add in now, it is clear that this isn’t just a reboot of work that I have done previously, but it’s closer to a re-imagining. It’s as similar as the 1986 Transformers movie and the Michael Bay films – the same basic concept, but one is just far more complex. And look! Still robots! What an excellent metaphor.
So, I am working at getting a list together of all of the parts on the previously praised Google Docs – I cannot describe how helpful it is to have my documents right there wherever I am. Once this is done, I will go through the laborious task of testing gameplay (but that is a long way off), and then providing a rough design of the cards.
It sounds easy, but it really isn’t. Trying to create a balanced weapons system, including weight class, ammunition types and additional effects… To be honest, I’m starting to wonder how all of this information will fit onto a playing card. Building a system like this was so much easier when my days finished at 3PM, and I was home by 3:30PM, back in my teenager days. It gave me roughly 4 hours a night that I used to just work and play with items and designs…
These days, I’m up at 5AM, out of the door around 7AM, and back at about 7:30PM. Time is definitely not on my side.
Still, I dream the dream. This blog was made to follow my work as I try to push my project into reality, maybe as a guide for others in the future to show that it isn’t easy, but it’s doable. Let’s just hope that it is still doable, otherwise I will be seriously grumpy.
So, that’s the update… I’ll keep you informed of the latest developments, and might be able to provide some inspirational artwork at some point. Well, maybe inspirational is a strong word…
