It has been a while since Scrap Metal TCG has been updated – sorry all! After a solid month of working on it (even if there isn’t much to show!) I need a break to get my brain back in order. It happens from time to time, and it’s one of the perils of working alone on projects – when you don’t do it, it doesn’t get done. From that point of view, I’m actually interested in any assistance anyone can provide – tweet me and let me know if you would like to help.
But, on with the post.
During these breaks, I like to let my mind wander, and to allow myself to settle into playing games. It’s where some pretty good inspirations come from, and it’s part of the industry that I love on the whole.
Recently, I have been trying to tinker around with two programs, and failing. I need more practice with them, but so far I’ve been tinkering with Blender and Unity – Blender is a 3D modeling/animation program, and Unity is game development software. You might be able to see where this is going.
My ideas need to be made real. That’s the bottom line. If I can play at something for a few hours and get something worthwhile, excellent, so any random games that pop into my head I begin considering how they can be executed into a 3D game. It’s something that, with practice, I would hope to be able to publish.
It’s a long way off yet, but still worth practicing. An artist doesn’t make a masterpiece after picking up the brush just once – but then, I’m no artist. Speaking in terms of the metaphor, I’m a pretty rubbish finger-painter, not exactly Michelangelo.
That’s the update for this week – have a good week everyone!
