As always, I have a not so timely review for something that has been available for sometime, but then again I like to review things in my own time.
Written by the hosts of the Best Thing From podcast (available on iTunes, or if you prefer, Spreaker, along with other podcast apps), the Best Thing From – Volume 1 reviews the first 20 episodes of the podcast and answers some of the best questions once more. The questions, submitted by fans of the podcast, cover a range of topics selected at random, and each chapter covers one of the topics covered.
Written in an informal style, it features plenty of banter and off-topic conversation between Kev and Steve (Richard), the hosts/authors as they answer questions from their point of view with plenty of tongue in cheek humour, such as referencing a game show that they have invented (Badger Licking Live). In the chapter based on Fast Food questions, Kev responds to a question on ice cubes with:
“…the more pertinent question is why are you having ice in any beverage, anywhere? Did you learn nothing from Theme Park?”
The pair work well together, and know their audience, grown from The Mature Gamer Podcast community that they also started, and for first time authors they have done well. The book is a good read, and their enthusiasm and sociability is apparent.
“Writing this book has convinced me we should always take a punt on everything we think we can do”
My opinion on the book is clear; I think it is an excellent read, especially so for fans of the podcast.
Currently, it is available to purchase via Amazon for Kindle, and a paperback is due for release shortly.
